A Diffusion Limit for Generalized Correlated Random Walks
A generalized correlated random walk is a process of partial sums Xk = ∑kj=1 Yj such that (X, Y ) forms a Markov chain. For a sequence (X) of such processes in which each Y j takes only two values, we prove weak convergence to a diffusion process whose generator is explicitly described in terms of the limiting behaviour of the transition probabilities for the Y. Applications include asymptotics...
متن کاملLimit Laws for Transient Random Walks in Random Environment On
We consider transient random walks in random environment on Z with zero asymptotic speed. A classical result of Kesten, Kozlov and Spitzer says that the hitting time of the level n converges in law, after a proper normalization, towards a positive stable law, but they do not obtain a description of its parameter. A different proof of this result is presented, that leads to a complete characteri...
متن کاملA generalized model via random walks for information filtering
There could exist a simple general mechanism lurking beneath collaborative filtering and interdisciplinary physics approaches which have been successfully applied to online E-commerce platforms. Motivated by this idea, we propose a generalized model employing the dynamics of the random walk in the bipartite networks. Taking into account the degree information, the proposed generalized model cou...
متن کاملGeneralized master equation via aging continuous-time random walks.
We discuss the problem of the equivalence between continuous-time random walk (CTRW) and generalized master equation (GME). The walker, making instantaneous jumps from one site of the lattice to another, resides in each site for extended times. The sojourn times have a distribution density psi(t) that is assumed to be an inverse power law with the power index micro. We assume that the Onsager p...
متن کاملAmenability via random walks
We use random walks to show that the Basilica group is amenable, answering an open question of Grigorchuk and Żuk. Our results separate the class of amenable groups from the closure of subexponentially growing groups under the operations of group extension and direct limits; these classes are separated even within the realm of finitely presented groups.
